Horse Kinesiology Taping also known as K-Taping is an alternative therapy used for both therapeutic rehabilitation of injuries and for performance when the horse is working. Kinesiology tape can help the body's natural healing process and is designed to provide support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the range of motion. There are several taping methods that can be applied and each has a different result. Kinesiology Tape is not the same as standing wraps, polo wraps, or vet wrap. While horse owners can purchase kinesiology tape on their own, consulting with your veterinarian first if an injury is involved and then using an experienced equine kinesiology tape practitioner to apply a treatment - will ensure he's taped properly for the best results.
Kinesiology taping treatments for hocks to prevent injury or help heal faster
Benefits include muscle relaxation, athletic support, and stabilization of muscles for rehab or injury prevention
K-Tape can help stabilize ligaments and tendons, allowing a more full range of motion, and helping prevent adhesion during healing. Helps aid in proper positioning, use and motion of the joint
Neck taping can be used during riding to help encourage suppleness and flexibility in the neck. It is also effective in relieving pain associated with stiffness - especially if your horse exhibits tenderness in this area during palpation
When K-Tape is applied, you stimulate and lift the second layer of the horse's skin, increasing blood and oxygen flow which helps with pain or stress in that area. It can help with muscle soreness and relaxation. When applied properly, it can reduce swelling in an injury as well.
Done properly kinesiology tape provides support to joints and muscles and helps stabilize the area it's applied to. The tape helps stimulate touch receptors in the horses' nervous system and aids in blocking out pain receptor transmissions.
K-tape is specially designed to mimic the skin and flex with movement and does not restrict motion. It allows your horse to be more comfortable at the level of riding he’s designed to perform and can help improve his physical stamina.
An Equine Kinesiology Tape session may be done separately or combined with any of the other therapy sessions offered. We will start with a discussion and evaluation of your horse's posture, movement, and balance while in motion. Depending on what's discovered, or what issues you're experiencing, will help guide the type of taping treatment used. Sessions may include riding under saddle as well with K-Tape.
